“Rustin” – the film will be playing at Old Chatham Quaker Meeting House, Chatham, NY

June 30 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Old Chatham Quaker Meeting’s Outreach, Peace and Justice Committee will be showing Rustin on June 30, 2024 at 12:30 at our Meetinghouse.  Worshippers staying to watch the film should bring a bag lunch, since this will not be a potluck.  The film will be advertised to the list of the public who’ve previously attended our films.

The film tells the story of the gay civil rights activist and Quaker Bayard Rustin. Despite incredible odds, he managed to organize the March on Washington in 1963. This event is considered one of the high points of the civil rights movement in the United States. Over 200,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. and called for an end to racial discrimination in the USA. Martin Luther King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the event.
