Spontaneous Wisdom w/ Sarah French, Ghent NY

July 19 - July 21

“Play matters because people matter. It reminds us of our interdependence and gives us a chance to really see other people and, in turn, to be really and truly seen.”  – Jill Violet

Clown is a state of playfulness that invites us to let go into listening and presence.

In this workshop—for therapists and wellness practitioners—we’ll explore the healing dimensions of Clown.

What is the role of authenticity, vulnerability and irreverence in our work as therapists? Are we playful enough? And anyway, where does humor come from?

This approach to Clown is a journey of heart, rather than a pathway of tricks or routines. All therapists are welcome!

The group is limited to 12

Facilitator Sarah French

For as long as she remembers, Sarah has been interested in how people play. She had set out as a practicing psychotherapist when she stumbled into the paradoxical world of Clown, which set her on a very enlivening path, despite her hesitations and fears. She has collaborated with Vivian Gladwell of Nose to Nose, since 2012. She considers that she has many teachers, including the spinner dolphins of Hawaii, who are the clowns of the sea. In 2014, Sarah created OOFA-MIAOW to share and promote discoveries with larger communities.

OOFA-MIAOW makes books and games that are playful, if not also practical (The Book of Greetings, The Dance of Pants & Other Dances, Party of Animals…).

In 2021, Sarah founded Fool Tree, a small center for the playful arts in Ghent, NY, where she continues to facilitate clowning workshops and community events.

Here, Sarah also gives private sessions to support individuals on their pathways to well-being and joy.

Sarah’s approach to teaching is inspired by her adventures as a psychotherapist, social worker, English language teacher, actor, museum docent, and more.
