Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue located in Wantage, New Jersey is home to hundreds of animals who have been rescued from slaughter and neglect over the years. This year, the sanctuary is hosting a catered Thanksgiving dinner offering with delicious food and hay rides to meet the animals, like Brianna the pregnant cow who jumped off a slaughter truck and gave birth to her baby Winter at the sanctuary a short time after.
If you are unable to make the Thanksgiving dinner, but would like to donate to this incredible place on Earth that is working to alleviate unnecessary suffering and violence by spreading compassion and love, please donate here.
CBS’s Steve Overmyer interviewed the sanctuary’s founder, Mike Stura a few years back about the founding of the sanctuary and what inspired Stura to start the rescue organization.
“We try to save them. And they save us. Trust me! I’m telling you straight out. We give them a home, a place to live and they give me a reason to live,” Stura said. The story of Brianna for instance has helped create new legislation: A bill has been introduced to the New Jersey Assembly that would make it illegal to slaughter pregnant animals.
